Cyclist fatally hit by train in Fabens: deputies
El Paso County Sheriff’s officials have confirmed that a bicyclist tragically lost their life in a collision involving a train in Fabens.
According to authorities, deputies responded to the scene of the accident on Sunday, finding the bicyclist deceased.
The victim has been identified as 45-year-old Jesus Vega. Investigators indicate that Vega attempted to cross the train tracks while the crossing gates were lowered, and he was struck by an Amtrak train.
Family members of the victim have been notified of the tragic incident.
Fortunately, there were no reported injuries among the passengers or staff aboard the train.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Sunday at the intersection of NE Camp St. and N. Fabens Rd. Deputies from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office were alerted to the collision involving a pedestrian and a train in Fabens, Texas.
At present, the pedestrian involved has not been identified, and details regarding their injuries remain undisclosed.
Special Traffic Investigators are en route to the location to ascertain the circumstances leading to the collision.
